The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

Starting Salary
Technicians are placed on the F1 salary scale based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement, to an initial maximum of $74,504 per annum .

Duties:

Locate new and maintain existing relationships with practicum sites for student placement in Health Sciences and Human Services programs.

Specific duties include: Familiarizing agencies, supervisors and mentors with VIU program policies, procedures and practice education; develop and maintain materials for practicum; match students to appropriate practicum sites; utilize placement software to facilitate requests and generate reports, forms and materials to support student practice education and orientation; liaise with program chairs, coordinators, assistants and instructors; implement education and recognition activities for community agencies and mentors; participate in various meetings at the program and faculty level.

Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate health related undergraduate program from an accredited institution (e.g., Nursing, Health Sciences) or the equivalent education and experience. Five years' experience working at a complex public organization in a service/liaison role.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in health services, including knowledge and experience with specific populations and services across the lifespan. Strong understanding of health authority structures, operations and services on Vancouver Island, particularly the central region. Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation, problem solving, time management, written and oral communication. Strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, independently and with a diverse team are essential. Must be able to supervise, processes and manage multiple priorities including resolving complex scheduling conflicts. Knowledge of Coastal Health professional and student practice processes. The successful applicant must have access to a personal vehicle.
 
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in public post-secondary environments.
  • Previous experience working in HSPNet an asset.
