Snow Removal Crew
Duties:
As a member of the Facilities team, snow removal crew will ensure the safety of the campus community by clearing snow and de-icing roadways, walkways, and stairs.
- Work under the supervision of a Zone Captain and be assigned a section to ensure safety.
- Work in a team to clear areas in priority order.
VIU's severe weather procedures aim to communicate closures by 6:30am. Therefore, work is required to begin between the hours of 2:00am to 5:00am. Duties are performed outdoors in winter weather conditions.
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education completion
- Previous experience operating basic hand tools and equipment such as a snow blower or salt spreader
- Physical ability to perform continuous moderate physical activity and intermittent periods of heavy lifting
- Ability to work in winter weather conditions
- Snow crew wear their own weather appropriate clothing and boots
Preferred Qualifications:
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
