The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

Starting Salary
$8,196.30 per assigned course consisting of three workload hours. The rate for any courses requiring fewer or greater hours shall be prorated based on this standard.

Duties:

Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff and faculty. Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement.

Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.

This position may require travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and Care and 7 or more years of practice in Early Childhood Education. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Current membership in the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC).

Recent practical experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. Strong commitment to, and record of, successful undergraduate teaching and student learning, with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Knowledge and experience in applying theory in practice in a manner that is consistent with the content in the course descriptions. Demonstrated ability to work with, and contribute to, teams at all levels of a post secondary institution. Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology to teaching. Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Early Childhood Education and Care, expertise in instruction at the post-secondary level, proven research skills.
