Duties:

The Department of History at Vancouver Island University invites applications for a Limited Term 0.75 FTE position to teach six courses in Canadian History, Canadian Women's History, and North American Popular Culture.

The courses are:

  • HIST 113: Canada since 1945 - New and Changing Identities;
  • HIST 114:Canadian Women's History to 1920;
  • HIST 115: Women in Canada since 1920;
  • HIST 207: North American Popular Culture Before World War II;
  • HIST 355: Topics in Canadian History;
  • HIST 479: Topics in Comparative History.

At least four of these courses will be taught in-person on our Nanaimo campus, with no more than two to be offered online (asynchronous).

HIST 355 and HIST 479 are upper-level topics courses that may be catered to suit the candidate's research expertise. Please indicate in your cover letter what topic in Canadian history (355) and Comparative history (479) you would offer, in consultation with the department's current course offerings.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

ABD in History from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in History from an accredited institution and recent and relevant undergraduate teaching experience.
