Duties:

At the Campus Store, we strive to ensure all members of the VIU community are fully prepared for success. As a Retail Associate, you contribute to this by providing outstanding customer service for all customers while maintaining a welcoming retail environment. This position will actively welcome, connect with, and process the customer's sale.

  • Processing transactions (cash, credit card, debit, sponsorships, or internal accounts)
  • Welcoming and connecting with customers
  • Support the retail lead (aka Campus Store Cashier) with projects and special events (sales, academic year peaks, and seasonal demands)
  • General store maintenance (pricing, presentation, cleaning)

Current schedule: Monday - Friday afternoons (e.g., 12:15-4:15) with additional hours during peak periods, such as August prep; September/January rush; Inventory; Convocation; vacation and sick leave coverage.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma. Up to 6 months of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated front-line service and sales skills.
  • Accurate cashier skills using a computerized POS system and Business Math skills.
  • Entry-level word processing proficiency.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, service-oriented retail sales environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • This position requires daily physical labour, including standing for the duration of the shift and moving heavy boxes or carts.
